Reviews book: ‘Hide nothing from the masses of our people. Tell no lies. Expose lies whenever they are told. Mask no difficulties, mistakes, failures. Claim no easy victories...’ – Amílcar Cabral Tell No Lies, Claim No Easy Victories showcases the intellectual foundations and practices underpinning the liberation of Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde. From the importance of culture in decolonisation, to biting critiques of Portuguese colonialism, and strategies for guerrilla warfare in tropical forests, this new collection brings together select interviews, official speeches and PAIGC party directives from 1962 to 1973. Tell No Lies, Claim No Easy Victories reveals Cabral to be a skilled diplomat and lively and pragmatic thinker, concerned with national liberation in the context of Pan-Africanism and international struggle.

Reviews book: My "Norman Rockwell" childhood was anything but that once you stepped into the painting. It was a life of clashes of violence with a mother indoctrinated in conservatism. My relationship with my mother ended in divorce. From the Bible Belt of the Tennessee Hills to the Hollywood Hills, Nob Hill and Capitol Hill, this is my tell-all odyssey of the underworld life of the Hollywood and Washington elite. A chance meeting one night with "Madame" Wayland Flowers landed me in Hollywood and into the life of the adult video stardom that led to modeling, male stripping and working in the escort services, leading to clandestine encounters with the Hollywood stars. And now after twenty-five years of silence, TELL SECRETS, TELL NO LIES, allows me to finally cast away the shadow that has followed me and reveal the shocking provocative world of malice, perversion, and delirium in this jaw-dropping memoir that defies the imagination. A little about me... I grew up in the bible belt of America and knew at a very early age my life's purpose would never be fulfilled living in that environment. On my seventeenth birthday I set out on my own journey to discover my true values and beliefs. My odyssey took me to New York, California, Washington D.C., and Texas. Along the way I met my life long companion David. I now reside in Las Vegas, Nevada. In reflecting on my past I can truly say I have lived my life to its fullest and I share that experience with each of you in my memoir TELL SECRETS, TELL NO LIES. As mentioned... Reviews book: Alexis’s long-awaited second novel follows his award-winning Childhood. Set in Ottawa during the Mulroney years, Asylum is André Alexis’s sweeping, edged-in-satire, yet deeply serious tale of intertwined lives and fortunes, of politics and vain ambition, of the building of a magnificent prison, of human fallibility, of the search for refuge, of the impossibility of love, and of finding home. Whether he is taking us into the machinations of a government office or into the mysterious workings of the human heart, Alexis is always alert to the humour and the profound truth of any situation. His cast of characters is eccentric and unforgettable, all recognizable in one way or another as aspects of ourselves or people we know well. At the centre of the story, which covers almost a decade, is a visionary project to build an ideal prison, a perfect metaphor for the purest aspects of artistic ambition and for all that is great and flawed in the world. André Alexis is a true original, one of the most talented and astute writers writing in Canada today. This dazzling novel is filled with tragedy, dry wit, intellectual grist. It is playful, linguistically accomplished, and psychologically profound. Its yearnings constitute the highest level of human concerns and pursuits. Alexis has written The Great Canadian Novel, with a twist.
